India's opening batter Shubman Gill has been a revelation since he started to open the batting for India. Even though he made his international debut in 2019, he started doing well for the team in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2020-21. In that series, Gill started to open the batting from the second game of the series. At the time, the right-hander replaces his former U19 skipper Prithvi Shaw.

The Gujarat Titans player, last year, during the IPL 2022 had said that Tendulkar was his inspiration while growing up. However, the former said that after Tendulkar's retirement, he started becoming a fan of Virat Kohli

“(Greatest inspiration) While growing up, it was Sachin sir. Once he retired and once I started to understand the game a bit more, I was always a fan of Virat bhai,” Gill told while speaking to host broadcaster Star Sports last year.

He said pretty much the same things during IPL 2023. However, Gill added that he has learned a lot from Kohli and both Sachin and Virat are his idols.
