India’s team for the first two England Tests was announced on Friday night. One of the biggest surprises was Dhruv Jurel getting picked. Ishan Kishan as per reports has still not communicated to the Indian Board about his availability.
Many fans were surprised with the retention of Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer. The two batters didn’t have the greatest of times during the recent tour of South Africa. Many fans wanted veteran Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane back in the Indian team.
England will begin their India tour with the first Test in Hyderabad. The second Test will be played in Visakhapatnam. The series will then move to Rajkot before the final two games will be played in Ranchi and Dharamsala.
Aakash Chopra reckons two Indian stars' career is over –
After India’s squad selection for the England series, Aakash Chopra reckons that it is the end of the road for two stars. As per Aakash Chopra, Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara have played their last game for India.
The 46-year-old made these comments while analyzing India’s squad for the two Tests. “The squad is along expected lines. We had expected Rahane and Pujara not to be there. I feel that the chapter is closed. If you did not pick them in South Africa, that was the last opportunity to pick them.”
Aakash Chopra also noted “Ajinkya Rahane’s IPL career is alive, so he will stay relevant a little more because you become part of the conversation whenever you do well in the IPL. It is not important to play in Chennai. Playing in Chennai is important because Dhoni is there”
Cheteshwar Pujara turns 36 on the first day of the Hyderabad test. India’s veteran batter scored a memorable 243 not out versus Jharkhand in the season opener of the Indian domestic season.
“Pujara scored a double century. He is the saint of cricket. He will keep scoring runs because he doesn’t score runs for selection. Half the world scores runs for selection. He loves batting” noted Aakash Chopra.
While the two veterans aren’t part of the first two tests, the Indian fans are hopeful. If Gill and Iyer fail to perform again the selectors might have to go back to the veteran duo. For that to happen the two have to perform well for the next few weeks with the bat.
