Indian Cricket is set for a transition in the next few years and former India opener Aakash Chopra recognizes this fact. The former Indian star has named the next Indian test skipper who will be a great long-term option.
India’s current test skipper is Rohit Sharma and the 36-year-old is set to lead the team in South Africa. Team India will be playing two test matches in the Rainbow Nation. This will be followed by a five-match test series versus England at home early next year.
Aakash Chopra names India’s next test skipper –
Former India opener Aakash Chopra has named Shubman Gill as the next skipper for the Indian test side. Shubman Gill has been named the skipper of the Gujarat Titans side for the upcoming IPL 2024 season.
Taking to his YouTube Channel, Chopra said "I am talking about extremely long-term, it could be Shubman Gill. I am not talking about now, I am talking about the distant future. It could be Rishabh Pant. Rishabh Pant as a Test cricketer is 24-carat gold,"
Aakash Chopra continued “So he could also be the one. He is a game-changer. So I will look towards one of these two once Rohit says he is done with Test cricket and that you can appoint someone else as the skipper”
Rohit Sharma has missed a few Test Matches early in his captaincy stint. KL Rahul and Jasprit Bumrah have led the side in the absence of the stylish right-handed batter. There is also an option that Rishabh Pant could be the next captain of Team India.
As per reports, the 26-year-old is gearing up for his return during the IPL 2024 season. Rishabh Pant hasn’t played any cricket this calendar year as he was recuperating from his injuries. The Indian wicket-keeper had been involved in a huge accident late last December.
The Indian team has a huge task ahead if they have to play the 2025 World Test Championships final. Pakistan and Bangladesh are the early leaders in the table with India at number 3.
Pakistan is set to face Australia in a three-match test series while Bangladesh is playing New Zealand at home. India’s big test starts against the Temba Bavuma led Proteas side in a short series which begins on 26th December.
