On 27 January 2023, England locked horns with South Africa in the first game of the three-match ODI series. The match took place in Bloemfontein. Fans were hoping for a great contest between these sides. However, the home side came out victorious as the Proteas defeated England by 27 runs.

Speaking of the match, South Africa won the toss and opted to bat first. Quinton de Kock and Temba Bavuma came out to open the innings. De Kock scored 37 runs off 41 balls while Temba Bavuma scored 36 runs off 28 balls. But, Rassie van der Dussen scored a fantastic century at number three. 

South Africa took a 1-0 lead over England by winning the series opener

The Protea batter scored 111 runs off 117 balls, including six fours and one six. Heinrich Klaasen scored 30 runs off 32 balls. Then, David Miller scored 53 runs off 56 balls, including four boundaries and one six. Finally, they scored 298 runs for seven wickets in 50 overs. For England, Sam Curran took three wickets for 35 runs in nine overs. However, it was not a good comeback for Jofra Archer as he took just one wicket for 81 runs in 10 overs.

In reply, Jason Roy and Dawid Malan came out to open the innings. Jason Roy scored 113 runs off 91 balls, including 11 fours and four sixes. But, during his innings, a funny incident took place in the 25th over. Anrich Nortje was bowling while Roy was batting. On the first delivery of that over, Jason Roy hit two runs. But, a video has now gone viral where the leg umpire, Marais Erasmus was seen looking away during that delivery. He completely missed the ball and fans found the video very funny. However, England failed to chase the target down as they got bundled out for 271 runs in 44.2 overs. Sisanda Magala took three wickets for 46 runs in nine overs.
