The 33rd match of the ongoing IPL took place at Eden Gardens on 23 April 2023. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) locked horns with Chennai Super Kings (CSK). KKR lost their last game against Delhi Capitals (DC). While CSK won their last game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

KKR also lost their last three matches back-to-back. So, Nitish Rana and his men were looking to get back into winning ways in front of the home crowd. Speaking of the match, Rana won the toss and asked CSK to bat first. David Wiese got his debut cap as Litton Das got dropped from the last playing XI.

KKR have suffered four consecutive loss now in IPL 2023

While batting first, CSK put up a mammoth score of 235 runs for four wickets in 20 overs. Devon Conway scored 56 runs off 40 balls, including four fours and three sixes. Shivam Dube scored 50 runs off 21 balls, including two fours and five sixes. But, it was Ajinkya Rahane who smashed KKR bowlers all around the ground. He remained not out on 71* runs off 29  balls, including six fours and five sixes. For KKR, Kulwant Khejroliya took two wickets for 44 runs in three overs. Along with him, Suyash Sharma and Varun Chakravarthy took one wicket each.

For the chase, KKR batters were all over the place after losing four wickets for 70 runs in 8.2 overs. Rana scored 27 runs and Venkatesh Iyer scored 20 runs off 20 balls. Jason Roy played some shots and scored fifty from 19 balls. He got out after scoring 61 runs off 26 balls, including five fours and five sixes. Rinku showed a fight and scored 53* runs off 33 balls and KKR finished at 186 runs for eight wickets in 20 overs. For CSK, Deshpande and Theekshana took two wickets each while the other four bowlers grabbed one wicket each. Thus, KKR lost the match by 49 runs. After this loss at Eden Gardens, KKR have now for consecutive games this year.
