Former India skipper Kapil Dev is facing abuse from several social media users. He is facing the same as he called for Virat Kohli's omission from the T20I team for the 20-20 World Cup 2022. "Yes, now the situation is such that you might be forced to bench Kohli from T20 playing eleven. If world No. 2 bowler Ashwin can be dropped from Test side then (once upon a time) world No. 1 batter can also be dropped," Kapil Dev told ABP News.

The 1983 World Cup-winning skipper added that the Delhi player is not playing the way he used to. Dev also mentioned that past performances made Virat a star but now the latter isn't performing now. The Chandigarh-born player also said that if Kohli isn't performing, then it will be difficult to keep the youngsters out of the team.

"Virat is not batting at a level which we have seen him do over the years. He has made a name because of his performances but if he isn't performing, then you can't keep the performing youngsters out of the team. I want competition for places in team in a positive sense that these youngsters should try and outperform Virat," Kapil, who had led India to their first World Cup title in 1983, further said.

"You can't just go by reputation but you have to look for current form. You can be an established player but that doesn't mean that you will be given chances even if you fail five games in a row," he concluded.

These comments haven't gone down well with the fan base of the 102-Test veteran. They have started abusing the legend from right, left, and centre. It has been difficult for those individuals to digest the criticism as of now.
