India decimated Australia in the first test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy. At the VCA Stadium in Nagpur, the Blue Tigers defeated the Kangaroos by an inning and 132 runs. The likes of Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Axar Patel became the architects of the victory in the first test.
India added 79 runs to their overnight score before getting all out for 400 on Day 3. Ravindra Jadeja could not extend his innings beyond the individual score of 70, whereas Axar Patel missed out on a well-crafted century. However, the lead seemed to be a big hill to climb for Australia as they crumbled to 91 in their second innings. India took a huge step towards the WTC finals (2021-23 cycle) with the win.

5) Axar Patel breaks legendary fast bowler’s record as a batsman
Axar Patel had a great game against Australia at VCA Stadium. While batting, the left-handed batsman scored a patient 84 runs from 170 deliveries. There were ten fours and a single six. The player scored the highest score in the longest format of the game.
Also, Axar Patel broke the record that was held by Zaheer Khan. He set a record for the highest number of runs scored by a No 9 batsman at VCA Stadium. Previously, the legendary fast bowler had the record to his name when he scored 33 at VCA Stadium.
4) Todd Murphy sets a record as a debutant
Todd Murphy was a silver lining in the first test match for Australia. The debutant off-spinner picked up seven wickets in the first innings. He became the youngest player to get a five-wicket haul for the Kangaroos. He achieved the record at an age of 22 years and 86 days. Previously, Joey Palmer held the record, having taken a five-wicket haul at 22 years and 360 days.
3) Rohit Sharma sets a record as the Indian captain
Rohit Sharma becomes the first-ever Indian captain to score a century across all formats of international cricket. With a century on Day 2, Rohit Sharma has now scored his first century as the test captain of the national team. The player scored 120 runs from 212 deliveries in the first innings. Rohit Sharma also becomes the fourth-ever captain in the game's history to achieve this special feat.
2) Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel’s partnership overpowers Zaheer Khan and Wriddhiman Saha's partnership
Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja built on the foundation laid by Rohit Sharma. The 88-run partnership between the two left-handers inflated India's lead in the first innings. They broke the record held by Wriddhiman Saha and Zaheer Khan. The previous record was 58 runs for the ninth wicket partnership at VCA Stadium in 2010 against South Africa held by Saha and Zak.

During the first test in Nagpur, the Indian skipper broke the record of the legendary opener, Sunil Gavaskar. With the century against the Aussies, Rohit Sharma has 78 50+ scores while batting at No 1. Previously, this record was held by Sunil Gavaskar. Sunil Gavaskar had 77 50+ scores in test cricket while batting at No 1.
