The tickets have been sold out and more than 100000 people are expected to present in the opening match of the Indian T20 League between Gujarat and Chennai at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on March 31st. Defending champions Gujarat and the four-time champions Chennai will take on each other to kickstart the tournament.
The 2023 season is expected to be the last outing for the Chennai skipper MS Dhoni and the fans will be wishing for a glimpse of him for one more time
However, former Chennai player Suresh Raina has given hints that Dhoni might continue in the 2024 Indian T20 League as well. Also, Chennai will be looking to clinch the title for the fifth time and give Dhoni a perfect farewell.
However, it looks like, Chennai has already found the replacement for Dhoni as they bought Ben Stokes for INR 16.25 crore in the 2023 auction. Although it’s not confirmed yet but Stokes is likely to be Chennai's skipper after Dhoni’s retirement. Chennai also bought Ajinkya Rahane for the upcoming season for the base price of 50 lakh.
While, the current champions Gujarat bought Kane Williamson for INR 2 crore. Williamson has experience leading a franchise earlier and under his stint, Hyderabad made it into the finals of 2018. Along with Williamson, players like KS Bharat, Odean Smith, Mohit Sharma and Urvil Patel are the new additions in Gujarat for the upcoming season.
