On 13 July 2023, both South Zone and West Zone were in action on day two of the ongoing Duleep Trophy final at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. South Zone finished day one with a score of 182 runs for seven wickets in 65 overs. Washington Sundar and Vijaykumar Vyshak were the overnight batters.

On day two, in the first session, South Zone got bundled out for 213 runs in 78.4 overs. In reply, West Zone had a good start but finished the day with a score of 129 runs for seven wickets in 45 overs. Suryakumar Yadav was one of the big names that failed miserably as he scored just eight runs off six balls, including one six. Seeing such a failure, fans thrashed him brutally on social media.

Suryakumar Yadav smashed a fifty in the semi-final 

Suryakumar came to this clash after scoring 59 runs in the semi-final against Central Zone. In the first innings, he scored just seven runs while in the second innings, he scored 52 runs off 58 balls, including eight fours and one six. But, he failed to deliver this time around. However, on the first delivery, he smashed a six. Although it was a dropped catch and turned into a six-run. Finally, Vidwath Kaverappa took his wicket. Speaking of the match, for South Zone, skipper Hanuma Vihari was the highest scorer with 63 runs off 130 balls.

In reply, for West Zone, Prithvi Shaw scored 65 runs off 101 balls, including nine fours. Apart from him, Cheteshwar Pujara scored nine runs, Suryakumar scored eight runs, and Sarfaraz Khan managed a four-ball duck. Hence, after the play on day two, West Zone are currently trailing by 84 runs with three wickets in hand. Kaverappa was the star with the ball as he took four wickets for 44 runs in 16 overs. Along with him, Vasuki Kaushik took one and Vyshak took two wickets. Meanwhile, Suryakumar has played only one Test so far for Team India. He got that debut in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against the Aussies and scored just eight runs in one inning.
