Only two matches are remaining for the Indian T20 League 2022 to come to an end. Playing their debut season in the tournament, Gujarat became the first team to book a place in the final. They will be playing against the winner of Qualifier 2, scheduled to be held on Friday.
The final of the Indian T20 League 2022 is slated to be played on Sunday at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Two of the most successful teams in the history of the tournament, Mumbai and Chennai occupied the bottom two spots on the points table. Both the team failed to live up to the expectations. Much like these two teams, some of the players also exhibited below-par performances and failed to live up to their billing.
In this article, we will be talking about five such players who played below expectations in Indian T20 League 2022:
- Rohit Sharma
Mumbai’s skipper, Rohit Sharma’s name has to be at the top of the list. He is the most successful captain in the tournament’s history. However, the ongoing edition was a forgettable one for Rohit Sharma.
He played all 14 matches and could only manage to score 268 runs at a dismal average and strike rate of 19.14 and 120.18 respectively. Rohit Sharma couldn’t hit a single half-century during the entire season and the team had to face severe consequences for that.
- Mayank Agarwal
Mayank Agarwal got the opportunity to lead Punjab’s franchise in the Indian T20 League 2022. He had a great opportunity to stamp his authority with the bat. Punjab had managed to compile a solid squad this year but Mayank Agarwal’s poor performances with the bat meant Punjab suffered heavily in the batting department.
In 13 matches, he only managed to score 196 runs at a forgettable average of 16.71. This is, perhaps, the worst season for Agarwal in the tournament’s history.
- Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli didn’t come into the tournament with a rich vein of form. But the fans had a lot of expectations out of him. He has managed to score 334 runs in 15 matches but, given the potential he has, it has been an underwhelming season for him.
In 15 matches, he has managed to score only 2 fifties but would be looking to end the tournament on a high.
- Kane Williamson
Kane Williamson led the Hyderabad team for the entire season of the Indian T20 League 2022. For the second consecutive season, Hyderabad failed to reach the playoffs and Williamson’s poor form with the bat played a major role behind that.
He opened the innings for the team this year but couldn't get the team off to solid starts. In 13 matches, he compiled only 216 runs at a dismal strike rate and average of 93.51 and 19.64.
- Ravindra Jadeja
Ravindra Jadeja was appointed as the new captain of Chennai ahead of the start of the season. Under his leadership, Chennai failed to dish out the performances that they are known for. The added pressure of captaincy also had a severe effect on his individual performance.
In 10 matches, he could only compile 116 runs at an average of 19.33. With the ball, Jadeja managed to pick only 5 wickets at 49.60.
