5 players to watch out for India Vs Australia ODI Series

The Men in Blue will want to win their third straight ODI series during the World Cup year. A victory versus Australia would be the cherry on top after earlier this year's victories over Sri Lanka and New Zealand at home.

After overcoming the mighty Australians in the four-match Test series for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, India would be hoping to avenge the bilateral series loss they suffered in 2019.

Let's take a look at the top five players, upon which all eyes would be set

Umran Malik

Malik is going to be the standout speedster to watch out for in Bumrah's absence. He has so far dazzled with his velocity and wicket-taking skills, but he needs to be more reliable if he wants to guarantee a spot in the ODI World Cup squad.

He has been lethal thus far in the ODIs he has played for Team India, he will be a key wicket-taker in the upcoming Ind vs Aus series. It would take a lot from him if he needs to justify his position in the team with a number of players eyeing that spot already.

Steve Smith

Steve Smith, is going to captain the Australian line-up once again in the absence of permanent skipper Pat Cummins. Smith has been a great leader in his earlier spells as ODI captain and would look to add a win against India in India under his belt.

Smith has been amongst the runs in this format and would be looking to attack the bowlers by playing his shots well and staying right till the end. His wicket will be very crucial for the Indians as he can be a match-winner and take the game away from opponents easily.

Suryakumar Yadav

In Iyer's absence, the top T20I batter in the world Surya will get an opportunity to play all three ODIs. He hasn't yet established himself in the 50-over format in the number of games he has played till now.

So the forthcoming series will be a fantastic chance for him to show off his ODI cricket prowess. He needs to be backed well by Team India and see if they want him to be back-up to Shreyas Iyer or start him in the line-up instead of him.

David Warner

David Warner has the opportunity to regain their lost form during the ODI series against India, which, should it happen, will serve as a strong reminder to the selectors.

Warner's injury during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy had cast serious doubt on his ability to play in the ODI series, but coach Andrew McDonald confirmed Warner had fully recovered.

Shubman Gill

The 23-year-old Gill also made a century in the Test against Ahmedabad, identical to Virat. In the six ODIs he has played this year, he has already scored one double century and two hundred and fifty figures.

Gill appears to be in excellent form right now and will be important. He is undoubtedly the most in-form batter in the Indian team as of now and if he can continue his form, he might as well seal the spot of the other opener of the team, ahead of Ishan Kishan.
