The 16th edition of the Asia Cup came to a conclusion on 17 September when India thrashed Sri Lanka in Colombo by 10 wickets. But, it was a shocking batting display from the Lankans after opting to bat first. India bundled them out for just 50 runs and they registered the lowest ever total in the history of the tournament. But, it was only in the ODI format. If the T20 format gets included, there are some other instances where teams were found getting bundled out for smaller totals.
Here are the top five lowest totals in Asia Cup history
Bangladesh - 87 vs Pakistan, 2000
In the fourth match of the 2000 Asia Cup, Pakistan took on Bangladesh. The Men in Green batted first and set a 321-run target for the Bangla Tigers. But, in reply, the home team’s batter failed miserably and got bundled out for just 87 runs in 34.2 overs. Thus, they lost the match by 233 runs and Imran Nazir won the Player of the Match award for scoring 80 runs off 76 balls. For Pakistan, Abdul Razzaq took three wickets.
Pakistan - 83 vs India, 2016
The 2016 Asia Cup was played in the 20-20 format and in the fourth game of that edition, Pakistan locked horns with India in Mirpur. The home team batted first but managed to score only 133 runs on the board for eight wickets in 20 overs. In reply, UAE got bundled out for just 82 runs in 17.4 overs and it turned out the third-lowest total ever in the history of the competition so far. All 10 wickets of the Lankas went to India’s pacers. In reply, the Men in Blue chased down the target in 6.1 overs and won the match by 10 wickets. It was their 8th Asia Cup title and Siraj won the Player of the Match award.
Hong Kong - 38 vs Pakistan, 2022
