The Indian T20 League mini-auction took place on Friday, December 23rd and brought about some very surprising results to the foray. Many players who were expected to go for big bucks actually got their worth but many were also surprised massively.
Some players who were expected to be expensive buys at the mini-auction surprised all after getting unsold. Let’s look at the top 5 players who went unsold at the Indian T20 League mini-auction.
Dawid Malan
Once the number one T20I batter, Malan found no takers at the Indian T20 League mini-auction on Friday. The batter has recently fallen down the charts and doesn’t fit the ‘explosive overseas player’ category for the Indian T20 League teams.
Mujeeb ur Rahman
The 21-year-old Afghanistan off-spinner plays in a number of domestic T20 leagues around the world. A base price of 1 Crore however put all the Indian T20 League franchises off and the Afghan player remained unsold at the mini-auction.
James Neesham
The Kiwi all-rounder has been an integral part of the New Zealand white ball team. Many franchises however had already filled their quota of overseas all-rounders by the time Neesham’s name was announced. His base price of INR 2 Crore also was a big factor in him getting unsold.
Travis Head
Australia explosive batter Travis Head also faced snubbing at the mini-auction. With a base price of INR 2 Crore, the right-hand batter had his work cut out from the get-go. Head had played 10 matches in the Indian T20 League so far and has scored 205 runs with a strike rate of 138.51. With the exception of one inning where he scored 75, he failed to light the stage, a major reason for him finding no takers.
Blessing Muzrabani
The West Indies fast bowler has been a sensational multi-format player. In 53 T20 matches, he has taken 61 wickets alongside 42 in 34 T20I matches. Coming into the Indian T20 League mini-auction at a base price of INR 50 Lakh, the 26-year-old had hoped for a good payout, but the reality was entirely different. None of the teams called out his name and hence a good fast bowler remained unsold.
