Since this time social media has started impacting the game of cricket off the field and sometimes pressure on players on the field as well. It also shows how cricket fans look and follow the players and their families in modern times around the entire global circuit of the game.
It’s a different thing when fans talk about some cherishing moment on the field of cricket. But sometimes, the thing goes beyond that and player ends up being on the receiving end of criticism due to something in their personal life or anything else that happened to them other than cricket.
At such incidents, the better halves of the cricketers came ahead to defend them on social media to shut the trolls who tries to demean the player.
So, here we’ll have a look at such three instances when the wives of players went on to defend them on social media.
1. Mayanti Langer took stand for Sturart Binny
Stuart Binny has not that celebrated a career to his name. He alongside his broadcaster wife Mayanti Lange had to suffer a lot of trolls and insults over social media. It was due to the fact that Binny's place in the team was not consistent and he couldn’t perform well continuously.
I can carry my own baggage thank you very much 😃 he’s busy living his life, playing cricket, just being awesome in general, and not passing comments on people he doesn’t know 😊

Once, a fan tried to troll Binny by saying ‘he is carrying her luggage. Replying to this troll, Mayanti took a firm stand for his husband and said, “I can carry my own baggage thank you very much, he’s busy living his life, playing cricket, just being awesome in general, and not passing comments on people he doesn’t know.”
2. Anushka Sharma’s Clarification during World Cup 2019
Former Indian skipper and senior batter Virat Kohli’s wife Anushka Sharma was once on the receiving end of criticism from the fans during the World Cup 2019. She was facing rumors that she received tea from the former Indian cricketer Farokh Engineer during the World Cup. They later accused him of involving in the selection meeting and deliberations.
Later on, she came up with a very lengthy tweet on October 31st to clarify and address all the concerns mentioned above. She also added in her point that the High Commissioner had requested her to join them in the group photo which eventually went viral on social media.

Not only this, but the veteran Bollywood actress also spoke for her husband again when former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar criticized him and said that “During the recent lockdown he only practiced Anushka’s bowling, I saw a video. But that is not going to be enough”. Gavaskar’s statement didn’t go well with the fans as well.
3. Sakshi Singh on Rumours of donation by Dhoni during the COVID crisis
When the whole country was encountering the COVID outbreak, there was a claim ran on social media that former Indian skipper MS Dhoni had donated the amount of 1 lakh rupees through an NGO which is based in Pune for aiding the families of employees. This claim was being shared on social media in the final week of March 2020 when COVID hit India.
I request all media houses to stop carrying out false news at sensitive times like these ! Shame on You ! I wonder where responsible journalism has disappeared !

The impatient fans, trolls, and social media pages started criticizing Dhoni for donating such a ‘little amount’ of money during a time of crisis for the country. Although, Dhoni didn’t give any response as of his cool nature his wife Sakshi Singh came ahead and attacked the media for circulating completely the fake news without being responsible for journalism.
