Although, the men in blue have a strong bench strength to replace the senior pacer in the eighth edition of the 20-20 World Cup. So, here we’ll have a look at three pacers who could replace Bumrah in the Indian squad for this major international tournament in the Australian backyard.
Deepak Chahar
The 30-year-old pacer has impressed everyone with his stunning performance in the first of the three-match T20I series against South Africa. He scalped two wickets by conceding only 24 runs in his quota of four overs with a good economy rate of 6.00. He also returned from an injury due to which he was not a part of the national squad for the last couple of months.
Speaking of the T20I career of Chahar, then he has scalped 28 wickets in 22 matches with a five-wicket haul to his name. So, he might be a perfect fit if the Indian selectors go to look ahead on a replacement for the senior pacer Jasprit Bumrah.
Mohammed Shami
It has been learned in the media reports that the selectors had a discussion on the name of Mohammed Shami to be in the squad of the Indian team for the World Cup. But skipper Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid went on to prefer senior all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin in the squad over Shami. However, Shami was included as the standby player for the World cup.
So, after the reports of Jasprit Bumrah’s exclusion from the squad of the World Cup, it can be said that the senior pacer Shami might be a like-to-like replacement for Bumrah. He can play a vital role in the crucial matches for India during the World Cup with his experience of pace bowling for almost a decade.
Umesh Yadav
The Nagpur-born senior pacer has recently made his comeback in the T20 internationals after a long wait of three and a half years. Before appearing in the three-match T20I series against Australia, Umesh played his last T20I match more than three years back in the year 2019 against Australia. He scalped two important wickets of senior batter Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell by conceding 27 runs in two overs.
The Indian management has included him for the three-match T20I series as well. Considering the match practice being given to Umesh Yadav, the selectors might opt to think of his name in the absence of the ace speedster Jasprit Bumrah. Umesh can add his vital experience with the pace and line on the Australian surfaces.
