South Africa and the Netherlands played against each other in the 40th match of the 20-20 World Cup 2022. The Proteas skipper Temba Bavuma won the toss and decided to bowl first. The Dutch team posted a total of 158 runs for the loss of four wickets. While chasing the target, the South African team unexpectedly fell short of the target by 14 runs and lost the match by 13 runs.

And it comes another time when South Africa choked in a major international tournament. Before the defeat against Pakistan, Temba Bavuma’s men were looking comfortable to reach the knockouts of the eighth edition of the 20-20 World Cup. But unfortunately, they ended up at the receiving end of one of the big upsets in the ongoing edition.

Speaking of the match, Colin Ackermann and senior batter Stephen Myburgh played crucial knocks of 41 and 35 runs respectively. Other than the two, number three batter Tom Cooper also played a knock of 35 runs off 19 balls with two boundaries and two sixes. On the back of these knocks, the Netherlands posted a total of 158 runs for the loss of four wickets.

While chasing the target, South Africa faced some early blows as they lost their both openers only on the score of 39 runs. The proteas were comfortably heading to the target till David Miller and Aiden Markram had a charge there in the middle. Eventually, South Africa lost the match by 19 runs and got eliminated from the tournament
