England is now the second team from the Group 1 to reach the semi-finals of the ongoing edition of the 20-20 World Cup 2022. Batting first after winning the toss, the Sri Lankan team posted a total of 141 runs losing eight wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
While chasing the target, England comfortably crossed the line in 19.4 overs to seal their berth into the semi-finals of the 20-20 World Cup. England’s win has also resulted in the Australian team’s elimination from the marquee tournament from the super-12 round only.

Discussing the entire scenario of the last group match of both England and Sri Lanka, opener Pathum Nissanka provided a fiery start to the islanders as he stitched a quick partnership of 39 runs for the first wicket with wicketkeeper-batter Kusal Mendis. Other than Nissanka, Bhanuka Rajapaksa was the only batter to cross the individual mark of 20 runs. It all happened due to the collapse of Sri Lankan batting in the death overs.
While chasing the target, the brilliant 40+ knocks from Alex Hales and Ben Stokes played crucial in England’s successful entry to the knockouts. Other than the knocks from Hales and Stokes, senior pacer Mark Wood also delivered a special performance by scalping three wickets at the cost of 26 runs in his three overs. Eventually, England won the match by a margin of four wickets with two balls remaining in the 20th over of the run-chase.
English spinner Adil Rashid won the ‘player of the match award for his brilliant economical bowling. Notably, Rashid conceded only 16 runs in his quota of four overs to scalp one wicket.
