Babar Azam-led Pakistan took on Kane Williamson’s New Zealand in the first semi-final of the 20-20 World Cup 2022. Kane decided to bat first after winning the flip of the coin in the knockout clash against the men in green. Batting first, the Kiwis posted a total 152 runs for the loss of four wickets on the board.
While chasing the target, Pakistan didn’t find it hard to cross the line and they finished the match on the first ball of the last over. Star Pakistan opener and World number-two T20I batter Mohammad Rizwan won the award of ‘player of the match for his brilliant match-defining half-century.
The cricket fans from the Indo-Pak cricket fraternity are in an extreme state of thrill and excitement following the entry of one of their teams into the title clash of the tournament.

Talking about the match, the first inning played by the Kiwis was backed by the steady knocks from the skipper Kane Williamson and all-rounder Daryl Mitchell. Williamson scored 46 runs off 42 balls with a boundary and a six to his name. Whereas all-rounder Daryl Mitchell played a half-century knock of 53 runs off 35 balls with his bat. On the back of these knocks, New Zealand posted a target of 153 runs for Babar Azam’s men to win the match.
While chasing the target, the opening pair of skipper Babar Azam and star batter Mohammad Rizwan easily took the match away from New Zealand by stitching a hundred-run partnership for the first wicket. Senior Kiwi pacer Trent Boult claimed the wicket of Babar Azam when the latter was playing on the individual score of 53 runs off 42 balls.
But Mohammad Rizwan kept adding runs on the scoreboard and played a match-defining knock of 57 runs off 43 balls with five boundaries to his name. Eventually, Pakistan clinched the match by seven wickets, and Rizwan was adjudged player of the match for his brilliant knock.
Now, the men in green will play in the final of the tournament against the winner of the second semi-final between India and England set to be played tomorrow on the 10th of November.
