Cricket is a cruel game sometimes for the fans but is more so for the players involved. With more talent coming though than ever, it is getting increasingly difficult to nail one's place in the starting 11. This list shows some examples of this unfortunate scenario. Let's look at some player who played in the last 20-20 World Cup but won't be featuring this year.
Rahul Chahar
The first on the list is the Rajasthan-born right-arm spinner Deepak Chahar. The Punjab player had a decent Indian T20 League this season with 14 wickets in 13 matches at an economy of 7.71. That in isolation is a good stat but when compared with Yazvendra Chahal, it falls flat. The latter is expected to be promoted ahead of Chahar for the upcoming World Cup.
Varun Chakravarthy
The story of this mystery spinner is even worse in the Indian T20 League. Having taken just six wickets in 10 games with an economy of 8.40, it is certain that he would be given a miss as the new crop of bowlers have come through.
Dwayne Bravo
The entertaining West Indian has been a mainstay in the Caribbean national team for a long long time. Having played a great deal of cricket, the Chennai all-rounder decided to hang in boots after the last 20-20 world cup and hence would not feature in this year's world tournament.
Kieron Pollard
The player with the highest strike rate (175) in Indian T20 League, Kieron Pollard will go as an all-time great in the shortest format. After captioning his West Indies sied to a poor tournament, the destructive all-rounder said goodbye to international cricket and hence would not appear in this year's tournament like his compatriot Bravo.
Tom Curran
Tom Curran has been out of international cricket for a good length of time. Having taken 65 wickets in 60 matches, the bowling all-rounder has had a tough competition with his brother itself, who replaced him in last year's world cup. The bowler has not had a good showing since then and would be given a miss by the England board.
Daryl Mitchell
The Kiwi batter played just two games in this season's Indian T20 League and made just 33 runs. He is currently doing well in Tests and is most likely to be given a pass in 20-20s.
Sarfaraz Ahmed
The Pakistan wicket keeper has played 223 matches and made 5771 runs in ODIs. He was also instrumental in Pakistan winning the 2017 Champions Trophy. IN recent times, however, he hasn't been found anywhere near the starting lineup and is most likely to be given a pass when the 20-20 world cup comes knocking.
Asghar Afghan
The once Afghanistan captain has made 4246 runs in 195 matches with the highest score of 90. A heartbreaking loss to Pakistan forced the bowling all-rounder to retire and hence he would be not playing in the upcoming world cup in Australia later this year.
Mohammad Hafeez
One of the best Pakistan all-rounders in recent memory, Hafeez made 12780 runs in 392 matches. He also took 253 wickets in those games. After the last 20-20 world cup, however, he decided to hang his boots and hence won't be taking part this year.
Tymal Mills
The English left-arm seamer offered high potential but has been sidelined for most of his career. In the recently concluded Indian T20 League he took just six wickets in five games at a poor 11.17 economy which points to poor bowling and ultimately to the fact that he won't be getting an opportunity to play this year.
