Since achieving independence, India as a nation has seen everything- progress, downfall, standing up again, and whatnot. On the other hand, cricket has seen its rise in the Asian country in the midst of occasional chaotic situations. India's first overseas series after independence was in Australia. Winning back-to-back Test series overseas for the first time

The Ajit Vadekar-led side first won the five-match series against the West Indies by 1-0. After this, the team went on to beat England by 1-0 in a three-match series. Notably, this was India's first-ever Test series win in the Caribbean and the UK. 

1983 World Cup win

The team entered the tournament with almost no expectations. Even the players didn't have enough belief that they can do well. However, they first qualified for the semis and beat England. They then went on to beat the two-time champions West Indies in the final to win their maiden World Cup.

Seven teams such as India, Australia, England, Pakistan, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, and the West Indies participated in the tournament. The Men In Blue beat Pakistan in the final.

The Steve Waugh-led side arrived in India after winning 15 Tests on the trot. They had backed it up with a 16th win in the first Test against India. However, the hosts made a comeback in the second game in which they were following on. The team went on to win the game and then the series after beating the Aussies by three wickets. 

2007 20-20 World Cup win

The team had a horrendous ODI World Cup as they crashed out in the first round itself. Also, the Indian Cricket Board didn't send the best players for the tournament. However, despite all this, the then MS Dhoni-led side went on to beat Pakistan in the final to lift their sole 20-20 World Cup trophy. 

Became number one Test side in 2009

For the first time in the history of the India Test team, they became the World's Number One team in 2009. They achieved this feat after winning four back-to-back Test series in 2009, including one in New Zealand. In December 2009, MS Dhoni's men beat Sri Lanka by an innings to become the number one team. 

2011 ODI World Cup win

After being crashed out in the 2007 edition, the team won the 50-over World Cup at home. In the midst of having huge expectations, the team went on to win the tournament beating Sri Lanka in the final. Also, this was their first WC win after 1983. 

2013 Champions Trophy win

A lot had changed in the team after the drubbing in England and Australia tours. The team for the tournament was regarded as one of the weakest sides. However, they went on to win the ever-elusive trophy by beating England in the final. Notably, India won every game in the tournament including the practice games. 

2018-19 maiden Border-Gavaskar Trophy win in Australia

For the first time since 1947, when India had first visited down under, the team won a Test series in Australia. Before this, the team had come closer in the '70s and 2003-04. However, they could only win the series in 2018-19.

The best-ever Test rated by the World Cricket Governing Council through public voting, the team won the series despite missing their senior players. The then skipper Virat Kohli went for the birth of his child. After that, a series of players started getting injured. However, despite everything, the team won the series 2-1.
