Justin Gaethje registered a victory in UFC 291 over Dustin Poirier and just after that, Conor McGregor came up with a series of tweets. He called out Gaethje and set his intention clear of having a fight. He wrote: ‘Justin, I’ll slap you around’ along with another tweet that reads: ‘I’m the real bmf, he can fight for pennies if he wants but I want spirits, I call the shots, I’m in it to launch shots, fuck chandler, you want it call for it.’
Now, during his media scrum, Gaethje issued a response to McGregor and said: “I think he’s turned me down six times. And usually, you have to lose to fight him. So I don’t know what’s going on. I fight MMA. I like to fight big fights, I like exciting things, so it sounds pretty exciting to me."
“I don’t want to fight someone that is cheating.” - Justin Gaethje
“I’m not gonna fight someone on steroids. I’ve never taken steroids in my life, never will. Well, maybe when I retire, I might. But I’ve never taken steroids and I don’t want to fight someone that is cheating. And I probably shouldn’t even say that if I want the (McGregor) fight, but it’s the truth,” he further added.
“In the cage after the fight, I (told Poirier), ‘Hey, man. Let’s both agree to never fight each other again. Unless you have to have it, then I’m here.’ But we’re 1-1, so we’ll see. I would never deny him the opportunity just like he didn’t deny me the opportunity. But I don’t want it to be my next fight,” Justin Gaethje said. Regarding his next fight, he said: “We’ll see, man. The UFC (are) the guys who make the calls. So we’ll see what happens. I have no idea.” After the win over Poirier, during the post-fight news conference, Gaethje said: “This is such a cool life. I couldn’t imagine I’d be here as a child. I thank God every day for this.”
