A strange yet funny incident happened during the action-packed match between Sydney Sixers and Hobart Hurricanes in the 2023-24 edition of the Big Bash League (BBL). Sixers all-rounder Tom Curran was stunned by a sudden flame display at the North Tasmania Cricket Association Ground in Launceston. A video of Curran's horrified reaction has gone viral on social media, where commentators are heard pocking fun at the English cricketer.
Hobart Hurricanes, who won the toss and elected to bat first, got off to a decent start despite losing Matthew Wade early on. Curran provided a breakthrough by dismissing the dangerous Caleb Jewell (42 off 24 balls) on the penultimate delivery before the first powerplay. That wicket opened the floodgates as Sixers soon reduced their opponents to 69/5 in 8.2 overs.
However, Corey Anderson finally decided to take on the bowlers after realising that there was no point in not attacking. With Chris Jordan at the other end, Anderson faced a full-length delivery from Moises Henriques. The southpaw drilled it hard and down the ground to long off, beating the fielder Curran at deep. That hit ended the 37-ball drought for the boundary.
Curran was a mere spectator as the ball quickly traveled towards the boundary ropes. The 28-year-old, when went to collect the ball, the fire display came out of nowhere and he reacted in a very shocking way.

The South Africa-born cricketer was also the pick of the bowlers for his side, taking three wickets for 19 runs in his four overs. Hurricanes were reduced to 135/8 in 20 overs. Daniel Hughes' brilliant half-century saw Sixers cross the target in 19.2 overs. Curran remained unbeaten on 5 off 3 balls.
