Asian Games 2023 updated Medal Tally for October 4: India surpasses 80-medal mark

Neeraj Chopra showcased his excellence in the men's javelin event, securing a gold medal for India at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou on Wednesday. Additionally, the Indian men's quartet in the 4x400m relay team also clinched gold.

The medal streak continued in athletics, with Harmilan Bains securing a silver medal in the women's 800m, Avinash Sable earning silver in the men's 5000m, and Kishore Kumar Jena claiming silver in the men's javelin. At the end of the day's events, India had accumulated an impressive total of 81 medals.

Earlier in the day, the dynamic duo of Ojas Pravin Deotale and Jyothi Surekha Vennam triumphed in the archery mixed team compound, securing India's 16th gold medal at the Hangzhou Games. This victory marked India's 71st medal overall, surpassing its 2018 Asian Games medal count.

Wrestler Sunil Kumar added to India's medal tally with a bronze in the 87kg Greco-Roman event, defeating Kyrgyzstan's Atabek Azesbekov 2-1 in the Bronze Medal match.

In the women's 800m Final, Harmilan Bains secured a silver medal by finishing in second place with a time of 2:03.75. Avinash Sable, who had previously won gold in the 3000m steeplechase, secured a silver medal in the 5000m event.

The Women’s 4x400m relay team clinched silver, finishing behind Bahrain with a time of 3:27.85. Bahrain set a new Games Record to secure the gold medal.

Notably, India also matched its record for the highest number of gold medals in a single edition of the Asian Games. Additionally, in a mixed-race walking event of 35km, Ram Baboo and Manju Rani secured a bronze medal for India.
