In a big blow for Bangladesh, Litton Das has been ruled out of the Asia Cup due to viral fever. According to a report from Espncricinfo he has not recovered from illness and will not be travelling to Sri Lanka with the Bangladesh side. Das will be replaced by Anamul Haque who will be like for like replacement.

For Bangladesh, Shakib Al Hasan will be leading the side for the Asia Cup and the World Cup in India. When it comes to Anamul Haque, he has scored 1254 runs in 44 ODI matches for Bangladesh, he has scored three hundreds and five fifties. The runs have come at an average of 30.58. Litton Das scored 144 for Bangladesh in the 2018 edition in the final of the Asia Cup against India.

"He has been in the runs in domestic cricket and we have continued to monitor him in the Bangladesh Tigers programme. He was always in our consideration," Minhajul Abedin, Chairman of the national selection panel, said. "Due to Litton's unavailability, we needed a top-order batter who could keep wicket and Anamul got the nod." he added.

Before he was hit with illness Das had talked about fine-tuning his technique and becoming better with the bat so that he can score runs again. Das had found the going tough for scoring runs so far in 2023  and was chalking up plans with his childhood coach on how to get back amongst runs. In 2022 The right-hander was the highest run scorer for Bangladesh.

He accumulated 878 runs in 25 innings at an average of 41.80. The 28-year-old has been one of the better batters for Bangladesh in recent times. Although Litton's injury will be a big blow, the Bangla Tigers will hope that Shakib can use his experience at the Lanka Premier League (LPL) where he played for the Galle Titans (GLT) to benefit the national side.
