The hot topic in the Asia Cup 2023 at the moment is the India-Pakistan Super Four fixture. The game will take place in Colombo on 10 September and will also have a reserve day which will be 11 September. On August 8, there was a lot of hullabaloo over putting a reserve day for just the India-Pakistan game. The talk was about why the India-Pakistan game deserved to have a reserve day and why the other games have been left hanging high and dry.

But the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and Sri Lankan Cricket Board (SLC) have clarified their stance about the issue on Twitter,  A reserve day for India Pakistan contest in the Super 11 Asia Cup Super 4 stage has been added that effectively revised the Asia Cup playing condition. To clarify on the position, the decision was taken with the consent of all four participating teams and ACC. the BCB wrote on Twitter.

The Super Four matches in the Asia Cup were planned to be played at Hambantota

The SLC also echoed similar sentiments saying The reserve day for the India-Pakistan contest of the Super 11 Asia Cup Super 4 stage was taken in consultation with all four member boards of the Super 4 competing teams. Accordingly, the ACC effectively revised the playing conditions of the tournament to effect the agreed-upon change.

The off-field drama has taken centre stage rather than the matches itself. There was a lot of drama about staging the Super Four fixtures in Sri Lanka. Colombo was earlier fixed as the venue. However inclement weather forced the ACC in consultation with the SLC and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and decided to change the venue to Hambantota because the place had drier weather.

But India and Pakistan were unwilling to move to Hambantota because of the hotels there. And so the ACC decided to keep the matches in Colombo. The Sri Lankan capital has had wet weather over the past few days and the forecast for the upcoming matches is not that great. Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will play on September 9 and this will be the first match of the Super Fours of the Asia Cup 2023.
