Misbah-ul-Haq, Mohammad Hafeez tear into Pakistan's management over lackluster show in Asia Cup 2023

The Pakistan Cricket Team had a below-par performance in Asia Cup 2023 as they crashed out of the tournament. This puts Pakistan on a slippery slope ahead of the World Cup in India. The Asia Cup performance was discussed in a special meeting which was held in Lahore at the National Cricket Academy on Wednesday. Babar Azam, Grant Bradburn, Misbah-ul-Haq and Mohammed Hafeez were some of the key figures to be present at the meeting.

Some sources pointed out that Shadab Khan could still retain his vice-captaincy but the decision will be made final after a round of talks take place. the cricket committee were trying to find out mistakes made and tried to give some changes that could be implemented. However, it appears that the coaches and the cricket committee are not on the same page. The coaches want to stick to the old formula.

This raised a lot of red flags as the coaches were reluctant to ring in the changes even after getting to know the mistakes that were made. In the meeting, backup plans were also discussed as in who could the team bring in if some unfortunate injuries were to occur. With Pakistan's chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq not being there for the meeting it did not set a good precedent ahead of the World Cup.

The Team management has asked the board to let it keep doing its preparations ahead of the World Cup. Skipper Babar will give his answers and views to the board on Friday after which Pakistan's World Cup squad is expected to be announced. The Men in Green's squad could come out on Friday or Saturday.

Talking about the Asia Cup, Pakistan had a strong start with wins against Nepal in the group stage and Bangladesh in the Super Fours. But it all came crashing downhill for them later. The second India-Pakistan clash had a reserve day which allowed a result and gave a full two points to the winning side on that day.

When it comes to ODI World Cups, Pakistan last won a World Cup in 19992. In 1999 they made it to the finals but lost to a mighty Australian side that went on to dominate World Cricket for a long time. The Men in Green would fancy themselves in Indian conditions that are very similar to what they are at home.
