It has not been an easy ride for Shreyas Iyer as he has been ruled out of India's clash against Sri Lanka in Asia Cup 2023. Iyer was out of the India-Pakistan clash as well with a back spasm and KL Rahul had taken his place in the Indian side five minutes before the toss. This provides a selection headache for India ahead of World Cup 2023.

Iyer was initially looked at as India's number four in the middle order ahead of the 2023 World Cup. His big positive is playing the spinners very well. India have struggled in that area recently. But now with Iyer having problems with his back India need to look at back-up plans ahead of the big tournament on home soil.

When it came to the Indian Team, they had a commanding win against Pakistan in their first game in the Super Four stage. They outshone Pakistan both with the bat and ball. Virat Kohli and KL Rahul smashed centuries. The two of them put together a 233-run partnership against the Men in Green. With the ball, Kuldeep Yadav spun a web around the Pakistan batters and picked up 5-25 in his eight-over spell.
