5. Winning a Test series in 2009 in New Zealand

This is one of MS Dhoni's slightly lesser-known achievements as he helped India beat the Kiwis in their own backyard, It was a hard-fought Test series. The Men in Blue won the first Test at Hamilton by 10 wickets. New Zealand were all-out for 279. In response, India made 520. In the second innings, the Blackcaps made 279 in reply. India only had to hit 39 in the fourth innings to win. The last two games were drawn. India have not won a Test series here since 2009.

4. Five Trophies in the Indian Premier League

MS Dhoni and CSK have had their love affair since 2008. The cricket-crazy public of Tamil Nadu gave him the moniker Thala which means 'head' in Tamil. MS Dhoni made CSK into a powerhouse in the cash-rich league as they are the most consistently performing franchise in the league. In almost all seasons CSK have made it to the top four. CSK and MI are jointly there in terms of titles and have won five each.

3. 2007 T20 World Cup triumph

The tournament was played in South Africa and MS Dhoni for the first time was leading India at the helm, With a young side under his wings, India played an attacking brand of cricket to win the inaugural title. When it came to tactical acumen on the field, MS Dhoni thrilled everyone by using his shrewd cricketing brains. India beat Pakistan by 5 runs in a thrilling final. This was the first of his big-ticket triumphs.

2. 2013 Champions Trophy win

India did the unthinkable and won a tournament in England. The games were largely rain-affected. The Men in Blue were razor sharp with regard to their fielding in this tournament and also played a spectacular final against England that turned into a 20-over game. Ishant Sharma was the hero as he turned the game around with two important wickets at the right time. The Men in Blue have not won a World event since 2013.

1. 2011 World Cup Victory

In 2011, MS Dhoni had with him a team of superstars, he led them all very well and made some amazing changes when they were needed. While he did not have the best tournament with the bat, he led beautifully in the field. In the final against Sri Lanka, he orchestrated a magnificent unbeaten 91 to take India to one of its greatest wins after a long gap of 28 years.
