Faf du Plessis will lead Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for the third time in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024). The former South Africa captain joined the Bangalore-based franchise in 2022 and was handed the captaincy baton after Virat Kohli stepped down from the role. The Proteas batter led the side impressively in the last two editions, but could not end their title drought.

He will reunite the team in the 17th edition of the tournament to taste success for the first time. Despite not featuring for his country in any format, du Plessis has not officially announced his retirement from the white-ball formats of international cricket and T20 leagues. Rajat Patidar missed IPL 2023 due to injury but he played a key role in their impressive campaign in his debut season in 2022. The No.3 batter scored 404 runs including a century at an average of 40.4 and a strike rate of 144.29 from 12 matches. The franchise retained the Madhya Pradesh batter and is likely to give him a long run given his potential. Considering that RCB doesn't have many captaincy options left in their ranks, the 30-year-old might be handed the captaincy duties for the 18th season.

The Australian also has the lead in the Big Bash League (BBL). Taking all this into account, the franchise may put Maxwell in the top ranking for captaincy if du Plessis is not available for the 2025 season.
